After last night's disappointment with Blanche Lincoln winning her primary, some of us could use some good cheer. So, without further ado:

The Lime Green Monster (version 1)
It may be a superficial quip with Senator McCain's speech tonight, but as Marc Ambinder of the Atlantic noted, in presidential politics, "theatrics matter."
The choice of a lime green backdrop was, to put it kindly, not wise. Beyond representing a jarring visual for even the most colorblind political viewer, the set up was clearly a distraction from the speech itself. Take a look at some of the reviews:
Ambinder: "I wish I had a screen grab... but the green background is very weird and very jarring. On this stage, theatrics matter."
Matt Yglesias notes: "...it's interesting that he's shifted his aesthetic from his old black and white 'fascist' aesthetic to a new green and white Islamofascist aesthetic."
Atrios: "It'll make you look like the cottage cheese in a lime jello salad. Always a good look for an older gentlemen... The aesthetics of McCain's speech, just mercifully completed before a slightly energized crowd of literally dozens, was awesome in how dreadful it was.
Josh Marshall, over at TPM, noted: "Here's how bad it is. All the Fox commentators are giving competing explanation for why McCain's speech sucked."
Scout Finch leaves me rofl :
A lot of RNCC viewers were perplexed last night when McCain appeared from the light of the Obama logo, strolled to the podium, and began his lackluster speech before an enormous green screen. We'd seen that lime green screen before and thought McGrinch had learned his lesson -- it was not a good look for McCain and was widely panned by pundits and the public alike. So, why would he choose that hideous background for the biggest speech of his very long political career?
It turns out the green screen was only part of the story. The close-up at the podium made it appear to be a giant green screen, but the arena audience was treated to a much different image. As in Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, California.
Wait, what? Did they mean to have an image of Walter Reed Medical Center? Ouch. If only they were a little better at "the google", they might have recognized their mistake. Here is the Walter Reed Medical Center:

ABC News says the McCain camp isn't commenting. If they meant for the image to be Walter Reed Middle School in North Hollywood, I'm sure we'd all love to hear why that fine school was selected for such an honor.Hat tip to Talking Points Memo for the image:
Crooks and Liars, one of my favs, aims this barb and hits the heart :
At the time of this post's writing it seems to have been an amateurish mistake by someone in the McCain campaign who was tasked with getting an image of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center (Your guess is as good as mine on why the GOP would ever want to dredge up that image?). The incompetent screwup theory is perhaps given more credence by the fact that now there seems to be some finger-pointing going on inside the McCain camp as to who's to blame, but I'm still holding out for a more solid confirmation, because at this point Occam's Razor hasn't yet ruled out Comedy Central's managing to plant a mole inside the campaign. I'm sure there will be updates to this story as it continues to unfold.
TPMpointed out that this was not a still image - Many of us recall the students wandering about while McCain was speaking - "Get off my lawn !"
